Lots of things happening today that elicit the above response.
First up, today is the fourth day in a row that one of the apartment’s garage doors is dead (a new record). While dropping off the monthly check, they mentioned the motor finally died and there will be a replacement on Monday. Argh…
Second, early this afternoon I lost internet access to a select set of sites, up to and including the ISP’s homepage (Tis OptOnline for anyone curious). Well, when I called them up, they said that the modem was in a ‘locked down’ mode due to suspicious activity (i.e. running a server of some sort).
Excuse me? I take pride in having my PC as clean as possible (a must for Oblivion), and running something like a p2p client would be nuts. In fact my XP install boots to less than 200 meg memory in use, and that was with a moderate amount of work. What I *do* run are VPN and other relatively low-useage connections to work, but for very long periods of time – hours, or even days…
Anyway, after explaining what I actually do with my PC, the tech mentioned they have to escalate to an engineer and it may be up to 24 hours before they can unlock the modem and get back to me about a long-term fix. Though I was miffed, I thanked them and gave a callback number – then took a walk to cool down. Thankfully, things appear to be back to normal (so far) as of an hour ago, but this may be ‘interesting.’
And now, I’m trying to login to MO:UL to make sure I can make it tomorrow afternoon for the Parade Meeting. I bring up MOUL from GameTap, a new updater appears, and – ack! – I get an updating screen that says ‘420 meg remaining’ and ‘approximate time remaining 1 hr 30 mins 2 hrs 15 mins (total).’
This is turning out to be a long weekend. And I’ve not even mentioned work yet…
*sigh*
